Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry to hold foreign diplomats’ convention

Lahore, December 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry has decided to hold foreign diplomats’ convention to share with them economic strengths of Pakistan and to equip them with necessary data about the potential sectors for investment.

This was stated by the LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Tariq Misbah while presiding over a meeting of LCCI Standing Committee on Foreign Missions and Embassy Liaison here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Tuesday. The Chairman of the Committee Muhammad Haroon Arrora, LCCI Executive Member Khawaja Khawar Rashid, Asad Mumtaz and Shahzada Danyal also spoke on the occasion.

The LCCI Senior Vice President said that unlike previous practice, this year all foreign commercial attaches working in Pakistan would be invited to Lahore for an interaction with the business community. He said that a detailed document is being prepared by the Lahore Chamber on the investment scenario of the province of Punjab that would also be handed over to the visiting diplomats.

Mian Tariq Misbah said that the committee has finalized to maximize its interaction with all those who play a role to expedite Pakistan’s volume of exports. The Chairman of the Committee Muhammad Haroon Arrora said that the proposed diplomats’ convention would have many unique features including a small exhibition of Made in Punjab Products, a visit to all industrial areas in the province and a conference on the economy of the province.

He said that a dedicated team comprising sector-specific experts and noted businessmen had already been constituted with an objective to attract maximum foreign investment in Pakistan. Haroon said that once the foreign diplomats are convinced, it would not only pave the way for joint ventures but foreign direct investment would get a considerable boost.

He said that Pakistan was a land of opportunities but the unfortunate part is that we have failed to showcase its potential exists in various sectors of the economy. He said that there were a number of countries that much smaller in size and having comparatively thin population but their exports are much bigger than Pakistan’s for the reason they marketed themselves in the required manner.

He said that the government would have to develop its marketing strategy anew to avail to attract both local and foreign investment. Khawaja Khawar Rashid said that the embassy-Chambers of commerce liaison was of vital importance and the LCCI would utilize all its energies to further cement these ties.
