Lahore Chamber Urges Cellular Companies to Resolve Network Issues Affecting Business Operations

LAHORE: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has called on cellular companies to address ongoing network issues that are reportedly causing significant financial losses for businesses. During a meeting with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Zonal Director Sadiqa Khalid, LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad expressed concerns over the frequent system shutdowns disrupting business operations.

According to Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the meeting, which included LCCI Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry and Executive Committee Member Asif Malik, underscored the challenges faced by traders, IT professionals, and online businesses due to connectivity issues. Businesses are struggling to operate efficiently as cellular companies continue to expand their user base without upgrading infrastructure to meet increased demand. Despite a 25% tax on mobile phone recharges, network performance remains unsatisfactory, exacerbated by mergers among cellular companies that have not yielded improvements.

The LCCI leadership stressed the importance of stable communication systems, especially for international transactions, and called for immediate action to enhance service reliability. Vice President Chaudhry expressed the chamber’s willingness to cooperate with the PTA to tackle issues like the proliferation of illegal devices. Executive Committee Member Malik highlighted the long-term impact on Lahore’s e-commerce and digital sectors, emphasizing the need for robust communication infrastructure to maintain the city’s status as a trade hub.

In response, PTA Zonal Director Khalid assured the LCCI that their concerns would be forwarded to the relevant authorities and cellular companies. President Shad reiterated the necessity for urgent network upgrades to support economic growth, stating that efficient communication systems are crucial for the country’s economic backbone.
