Langate family claims their kin among 5 slain youth

Srinagar, August 11, 2018 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, a family from Langate area of Kupwara approached the police that one among the five youth recently martyred by the Indian troops in a cordon and search operation in Rafiabad area of Baramulla was their kin. Bashir Ahmed Mir, a resident of Langate, approached police claiming that one among the slain youth was his son, Muzaffar Ahmad Mir whom they identified through pictures that have gone viral on social media.

Soon after the family saw the picture, they approached concerned Police Station. “We were told to meet the SHO concerned in Dangiwacha in whose jurisdiction the operation took place. Later, we approached the Police station Dangiwacha,” Bashir Ahmed Mir said.

He said the family was told to approach SSP office Sopore. “We later met SSP Sopore and he assured us if the claim will come true, police will help the family in exhumation of the body,” he said. Meanwhile, complete shutdown was observed in Langate to mourn the killing of the youth.

On the other hand, reports said that another youth hailing from Baramulla namely Muhammad Suhail Akhoon who was also missing from the last couple of weeks was said to be also among the five youth killed in Rafiabad. Indian Army had claimed that all five youth killed in Rafiabad were foreign militants. They were buried in Hamam Markote area of Rafiabad on Thursday. However, many people had challenged the army’s claim and said that the youth were Kashmiris and were killed in a fake encounter by the troops.
