Majyd Aziz Advocates for Blue Economy as Key Focus for Pakistan’s Investment Council

Karachi: At the COLMAB 2024 conference, Majyd Aziz, former President of the Employers Federation of Pakistan, emphasized the need for the Blue Economy to become a central priority for the Special Investment Facilitation Council, alongside sectors like agriculture, mining, and information technology. He highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s extensive coastline to spur economic growth and job creation through sustainable ocean resource utilization.

According to Employers’ Federation of Pakistan, Aziz outlined the current minimal global export market share of Pakistan in the Blue Economy, stressing the urgency for advancements in the fishery sector and broader maritime activities including renewable energy and tourism. His comments addressed the underutilization of Pakistan’s maritime resources and the need for modernization to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Aziz also reflected on his tenure as President of the UN Global Compact Network Pakistan, where he worked with the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network Denmark to reduce corruption in maritime port operations. Furthermore, he proposed a restructuring of port charges to optimize costs for exporters, importers, and the government, and advocated for more significant private sector involvement in the management of ports to improve efficiency and accountability.
