Imphal: In a significant escalation of civil unrest, students in Manipur have launched street protests demanding substantial changes in the administration of state security amid ongoing regional conflicts.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the students’ primary demands include the dismissal of the state’s Security Adviser and the transfer of the Unified Command’s control to the state government, reflecting widespread discontent with the current governance and a strong desire for greater local authority in security matters.
The intensity of the protests was evident as students attempted to storm the residences of both the Chief Minister and the Governor. The situation culminated in a sit-in outside the Governor’s Raj Bhawan, underscoring the students’ determination to be heard. This unrest coincides with the closure of Manipur schools on September 9 and 10, ordered by the education department, suggesting a significant impact on the student community due to the ongoing crisis.
