Mari Petroleum Announces First-Ever Oil Discovery in Sindh

Karachi, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) has reported a significant oil discovery at its Shawal-1 exploration well within the Mari Development and Production Lease (D&PL) in Sindh Province, marking the company’s first oil find in this area.

Drilled to a total depth of 1,136 meters into the Ghazij Formation, the Shawal-1 well was initiated on January 27, 2024. During testing, the well produced 1,040 barrels of crude oil daily, characterized by a 30-degree API gravity. It also yielded 12% Basic Sediment & Water (BS&W) along with 2.5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of associated gas. The output was measured at a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 953 pounds per square inch (Psi) using a 32/64 inch choke size.

This discovery represents a new milestone for MPCL, which operates the Mari D&PL with a 100% working interest and has historically focused on gas production in the region since 1967.
