Meeting expresses concern over alarming decline in quality of education in public-sector educational institutions in the country including Azad Jammu and Kashmir

Mirpur, September 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): A special meeting held here to mark World Literacy Day expressed grave concern over the alarming decline in the quality of education in the public-sector educational institutions in the country including AJK following the increased trade-union and unproductive activities of the academic staff.

Like rest of the world Universal Literacy Day was observed throughout Azad Jammu Kashmir on Sunday with the renewal of pledge to work for encouraging getting education aimed at raising literacy rate to one hundred percent with the motive to bringing Pakistan in the ranks of the developed nations to meet the challenges of 21st century.

The objective of the world literacy day was to raise awareness among the people about importance of education. Various private and public sector educational organization and the NGOs conducted special meetings, seminars and walks at different places in AJK schools and colleges to highlight significance of the global literacy day by following the government’s special emphasis on focusing fullest attention to increase literacy rate through provision of quality education in both the private and public sector educational institutions.

According to a rough estimate, the rate of literacy in Azad Jammu Kashmir is over 65 percent and at primary school level it is over 95 percent – as reported by the state education department.
