Meeting Review Development Works In City

Karachi: Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed has directed all departments to finish their projects in time and give final shape to new development projects so that budget allocations could be made for these projects in next financial year. He was addressing a review meeting on annual development program which was attended by Municipal Commissioner Matanat Ali Khan, Financial Advisor Amir Khursheed, D.G Parks Niaz Ahmed Soomro, D.G Technical Services Altaf G. Memon and other heads of departments. On this occasion the various heads of departments gave briefing to Administrator Karachi on the present development works, their progress, completion and the financial resources.

The meeting was informed that a sum of Rs8.6million was spent on the installation of elevator and air-conditioning system in the new 200 bed building of Sobhraj Maternity Hospital. Rs20million will be spent on the purchase of medical equipment for the hospital. Rs20million had been released for procurement of buses for Karachi Medical and Dental College and a sum of Rs60million was incurred on three other development schemes.

It was further informed that the renovation work for Abbasi Shaheed Hospital was being carried out with a cost of Rs120million which would include the installation of new elevator and power cables in the hospital. The development work of Landhi Medical Complex was 80 percent complete and the hospital will be opened for public in the current month.

It was informed that a committee had been formed to look into the matters pertaining to the installation of PMTs and electricity meters and, providing of street lights and shifting of electric poles so that the KMC and KESC could solve these matters.

The meeting was told that a total of 12 new fire tenders will be purchased this month with a cost of Rs75million which would improve the performance of fire brigade. About 36 new spray vehicles will be procured for fumigation purpose so that the city could be saved from malaria and dengue fever. Pumps and other necessary machinery will also be arranged for drainage of rain water.

It was informed that Rs237million will be spent on the completion of 11 schemes in the transport and communication sector and traffic signals will be installed in the city with a cost of Rs15million. Up-gradation of the Landi Kotal Chowrangi will be done also and signals will be installed on Shara-e-Quaideen for convenience of the public.
