Member Sindh Assembly discuss problems faced by residents of his area with Managing Director Karachi Water Sewerage Board

Karachi, July 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): Member of Provincial Assembly Shafi Mohammad Jamot visited Managing Director Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW and SB) Misbahuddin Farid to discuss problems faced by the residents of his elected area.

M.D KW and SB has directed that the problems pointed out shall be resolved on priority basis. Officers must work in coordination with elected representatives and area residents and resolve all issues pointed out by elected representatives with complete coordination with them.

M.P.A Haji Shafi Jamot speaking to M.D KW and SB stated that sewerage overflow is a major problem faced by area residents. Sewerage waste from Landhi and Bhains Colony (Cattle Colony) chokes the sewerage system and causes overflow in the area. It is therefore necessary that the system is restored which would also ensure marine life safety since the sewerage is also endangering marine life.

Requesting KW and SB to ensure that the industrial waste must be disposed in the sea after treatment Jamot said that most of the area resident in his elected area are fishermen who depend on marine life for their bread and butter.

M.D KW and SB Misbah Farid directed Project Director S-III to ensure that S-III feasibility must be submitted to elected representative so that he can take Government Approval. He said that KW and SB has completed study for Combined Effluent Treatment Plant however progress is pending due to approval. Greater Karachi Sewerage Plan S-III would not only treat industrial but residential waste as well therefore approval of the project would allow KW and SB to treat waste produced in Karachi, Farid added.

M.P.A Jamot has asked KW and SB for the feasibility report so that he can acquire Government approval, he also asked KW and SB to clean the chocked lines with heavy machines.

M.D KW and SB thanking M.P.A Jamot said that he agrees with Jamot’s complaint. Owners of Cattle farms in Cattle colony not only dispose their waste in the lines but are also using illegal connections causing water shortage in the area. He requested elected representatives to help KW and SB.

Farid, also directed concerned officers to cover all manholes to ensure that citizens of Karachi do not suffer during the rain and all sewerage lines must be cleaned.
