Mental Health Awareness Vital to Prevent Suicide: Kashif Firaz Ahmad

Islamabad: Chairman Applied Psychology Department, Government Islamia Graduate College Civil Lines Lahore, Dr. Kashif Firaz Ahmad says raising awareness about mental health and timely guidance can play a vital role in preventing suicide.

According to Radio Pakistan, in an exclusive interview, Dr. Ahmad emphasized that Pakistan’s position on the global suicide index has changed significantly, highlighting the need for coordinated efforts to address mental health challenges. He underscored the importance of the “Listen, Stay and Connect” approach, which he believes is fundamental to suicide prevention. Dr. Ahmad asserted that timely counseling can significantly reduce the risk of suicide.

Dr. Kashif Firaz Ahmad further noted that World Suicide Prevention Day is observed to raise awareness about mental health, prevent suicidal behavior, and reassure vulnerable individuals that they are not alone. He advocated for increased public awareness and support systems to effectively combat the challenges associated with mental health issues in the country.
