Militarisation major obstacle in Kashmir resolution: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, April 27, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that militarisation of Kashmir is a major obstacle in settlement of the lingering dispute. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq addressing a public gathering in Srinagar deplored that Instead of withdrawing its troops, India was deploying more troops and establishing new military camps in the territory.

He said that the people of Kashmir felt extremely insecure due to presence of Indian troops. He said that the troops should be withdrawn from rural and urban areas since they were the main cause of bloodshed of Kashmiris. “If Kashmir dispute has to be solved it was imperative that demilitarisation should take place as it would help create conducive atmosphere which would ultimately lead to resolution of the dispute,” he said.

The APHC Chairman also denounced the supply of fake and spurious medicines to the Valley hospitals and demanded probe into the scam by a committee comprising prominent doctors and civil society members.

He said in the absence of drug testing facilities, the illicit trade of spurious drugs had flourished in the occupied territory. “This is a serious issue as it directly concerns health of people. We demand strict action and exemplary punishment for the involved persons in the heinous crime,” he maintained.

The Mirwaiz hailed the local media for exposing the spurious drug scam. “Due to unflinching efforts of local media, people get to know about various scandals involving people at the helm of affairs. We are grateful to local media for exposing the spurious drug scam which points out involvement of some ministers and senior officials,” he said.

The APHC Chairman stressed the need to establish a comprehensive mechanism to test the drugs before being supplied to hospitals or markets in occupied Kashmir.
