Minister of Information and technology visits Universal Service Fund

Islamabad, April 11, 2013 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information Technology, Dr. Sania Nishtar today visited Universal Service Fund to apprise herself of the operations and functioning of the Company.

Dr. Nishtar, who undertook her first official visit to Universal service Fund (USF), was accompanied by the Secretary of Information Technology, Mr. Shahid Rashid. The visiting dignitaries were briefed about USF’s vast and round the clock operations and also about the proliferation of telecom services in the unserved and under-served parts of the country.

The Chief Executive Officer, Universal Service Fund, Dr. Basit Riaz Sheikh briefed the Minister and Secretary for Information Technology about the latest projects. He while giving a brief presentation stated that the number of previously un-served Mauzas where telecom service has been provided has crossed 3,600 and the number of small towns and cities with broadband internet service stands at 260.

He further stated that as a result of the untiring efforts of USF management and employees more than 1,100 higher secondary schools and colleges have been provided with the broadband services and almost 4,260 kms of Fiber Cable have been laid to connect the Tehsils which were not connected so far.

The Federal Minister took deep interest in the functioning and services of Universal service fund and expressed her pleasure at the technological innovations which USF is undertaking by extended her full support for implementation of USF Projects.

The high dignitaries interacted with the company’s senior management and complimented on the performance of the team.
