Mirwaiz put under house arrest to bar from leading rally

Srinagar, June 21, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities put APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nagin residence in Srinagar.

APHC media advisor, Shahid-ul-Islam told media men that police had informed the APHC Chairman that he was under house arrest and could not leave. The Mirwaiz was scheduled to lead a rally after Friday prayers from Jamia Masjid to Mirwaiz Manzil in connection with the ongoing foundation ceremonies of the Awami Action Committee, he added.

Later, addressing the rally over telephone, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Kashmir was a political and humanitarian issue, which could not be resolved through economic packages. He said that the people of Kashmir would observe complete strike on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to Kashmir on Tuesday to make it clear to him that the Kashmiris would accept nothing less than political solution to the dispute.

The APHC Chairman urged India to pull out troops, revoke all draconian laws from the occupied territory and release all illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists to pave the way for settlement of the Kashmir dispute. He reiterated the Kashmiris’ pledge to take the liberation struggle to its logical conclusion against all odds.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of 49 Foundation Day of the party, the Awami Action Committee at a meeting held in Srinagar through a jointly passed resolution denounced the house arrest of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
