Modi’s Islamophobic designs threat to global peace: Shibli

Islamabad, September 04, 2020 (PPI-OT): Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz says Narendra Modi needs to be snubbed as his Islamophobic designs do not augur well for global peace. He was addressing a seminar titled “India: Epicentre of Islamophobia” held in Islamabad under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

The Minister said Modi’s doctrine is nothing but a campaign of racial and religious hatred. He said it is only a matter of time before this Modi-fuelled fascism turns fatal and tears down the social fabric of India. He said today, the slogan of ‘Shining India’ is scarred with incidents of mob lynching of Dalits, beating up of Muslims on account of cow meat, failure of police to protect minorities and deprivation of Muslims of their birth citizenship.

Shibli Faraz said the violence that Modi instigated as Chief Minister Gujarat has now spread all across India like wild fire and this time as a premier he has the leverage to play with national legislation and international politics as well. The Minister said Prime Minister Imran Khan raised the issue of Islamophobia at the highest forum of United Nations. He said Pakistan will continue to highlight this discrimination against Muslims at all forums.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology Qibla Ayaz said Modi’s racist and fascist ideology has given rise to Islamophobia. He said Islamophobia has been given impetus by Modi. He said the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir are not allowed to go to hospitals.

He, however, said the international media is now criticizing India for its discriminatory policies against minorities. Qibla Ayaz said the repercussions of Islamophobia are global. He said the people from different religions had been living together in the Gulf countries, but now they are facing problems because of Modi’s policies.

He said the initiative of SAARC University is also on the brink of failure due to Modi’s policies as majority of SAARC University students are Muslims. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Akbar Durrani said Modi Sarkar is giving practical shape to his dream of making India a Hindu state.

He said last year, the Modi administration passed controversial and highly discriminatory Citizenship Amendment Act, under which for the first time, religion is a basis for granting citizenship. The Information Secretary said the world conscience has arisen as a result of sustained efforts of Prime Minister Imran Khan at every international forum. He said we reiterate our resolve to follow the spirit and determination to support Kashmiri struggle for their right to self-determination and wellbeing of the Muslims.

In her remarks, Academician Dr. Shabana Fayyaz said the Muslims of India have been in fear and they are socially stigmatized because of religion. She said India is the most fractured democracy. Shabana Fayyaz underlined the need for sensitizing the world and engaging with the international community on proactive basis on the issue. She said the OIC, the United Nations and the European Union should be moved.

Addressing the seminar, Prof. Bakre Najmuddin said minorities in India have been facing insecurity. He said Islamophbia has always been there in India, and during the Modi regime, its scope is expanding.

Academician Dr Zafar Iqbal presented historical perspective of the term and phenomenon of Islamophobia. He said the use of Islamophobia term traces back to 1923 in English literature. He said the phenomenon of Islamophobia is used in the world for making money. He said in India, Hindus are scarred of Islamic ideology because Muslims have ruled there.

Former Ambassador Abdul Basit said there is an alliance among the Indian media, RSS and the Indian corporate sector; and Modi follows their line. He said the Muslims of the world should carefully develop a coherent counter narrative against Islamophobia.
