National Disaster Management Authority dispatch Helicopters and Relief for Flood Hit Kohistan

Islamabad: In wake of the recent flash floods in Kohistan, which have, so far, caused 38 confirmed deaths and 24 people missing, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) immediately launched Kohistan Operation to provide timely rescue and relief services to the calamity hit people of the area.

This humanitarian initiative by NDMA mainly consisted of dispatch of one Acquiral helicopter for search and rescue and one MI-17 for relief transportation on 25 August, 2011, while one Acquiral and three MI-17 on 26 August, 2011. Owing to the treacherous terrain of the area, these helicopters are proving extremely beneficial for the provision of rescue and relief services to the distraught population of the affected area.
