Nawaz underlines need to hold plebiscite in Kashmir

Srinagar, November 15, 2015 (PPI-OT): The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, has emphasized that the only solution to the Kashmir dispute is to hold the plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir as per resolutions of the United Nations. The emphasis has been made in his letter addressed to the Chief of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Aasiya Andrabi, which was released by the party in Srinagar. Aasiya Andrabi had earlier sent a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister appreciating his role about the Kashmir cause.

Nawaz Sharif has maintained that Pakistan does not consider the Kashmir dispute as a geographical or border issue, but a dispute over the implementation of the principle, on which the formula of partition of subcontinent was settled in 1947. The Prime Minister has reiterated the Pakistan’s stance that Islamabad would continue to extend moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for right to self-determination, acknowledged by the United Nations.

The Prime Minister further said that India had itself promised to the world community that the Kashmiris would be given the right to choose their political future by holding plebiscite in the territory. He maintained that backtracking from this promise would be betrayal of the promise done to the entire world community. He lauded the sacrifices of the people of Kashmir, which they have been rendering to achieve their supreme cause.

Speakers at a seminar organized by a civil society, Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Society, in Srinagar said that dangerous conspiracies were being hatched to change the demography of the territory. They said that India was frantically pursuing its hegemonic designs in Jammu and Kashmir. Hurriyet leader, Zafar Akbar Butt during his visit to the residence of martyr, Gowhar Ahmad Dar at Zainakote in Srinagar reaffirmed the resolve that the mission of martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion.

The authorities placed the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest, today. He wanted to visit the family of a martyred youth at Zainakote in Srinagar, but police stopped him at the gate of his residence and said that he was under house detention.
