Gilgit: The National Disaster Management Authority’s Gender and Child Cell (GCC), in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), has initiated a three-day training program in Gilgit, focusing on the Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) for emergency health responders. Running from September 25 to 27, 2024, the training is designed to bolster responders’ abilities to deliver essential sexual and reproductive health services during humanitarian crises, with a special focus on the needs of women and girls.
According to Press Information Department, the MISP training includes crucial protocols to enhance the effectiveness of health services in crisis situations. These protocols are aimed at reducing maternal and newborn morbidity and mortality, preventing sexual violence, and avoiding unintended pregnancies. The training sessions cover a variety of critical topics, including strategic coordination, clinical services to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, and measures to prevent sexual violence.
This initiative reflects the ongoing partnership between NDMA and UNFPA to improve disaster management and response capabilities in Pakistan. By empowering emergency health responders with the necessary skills and knowledge, the program is expected to make a significant impact on reducing morbidity and mortality during emergencies, while also promoting disaster resilience.
The GCC and UNFPA are committed to ensuring that vulnerable communities, particularly women and girls, receive the necessary support and services in times of crisis, making this training a key step towards that commitment.
