NDMA Issues Weather Alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Warns of Heavy Rainfall and Potential Flooding

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather impact alert for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, forecasting significant rainfall and thundershowers across the region within the next 24 to 48 hours. Areas anticipated to experience heavy falls include the Hazara and Malakand divisions, along with Bannu, Peshawar, Kohat, Swabi, Swat, Mansehra, Haripur, and Dera Ismail Khan.

According to Press Information Department, the NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center advises the public to stay alert as urban areas, especially low-lying ones, are at risk of inundation during this period. The authority has taken proactive measures to mitigate potential impacts, including the launch of the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert application, which is available on both Google Play Store and iOS App Store, to provide timely weather updates, advisories, and guidelines.

Residents are urged to secure their homes against water leaks, ensure that drainage systems are unblocked, and secure any outdoor items that could be affected by strong winds or heavy rains. The public is also advised to avoid driving or walking through floodwaters, be cautious of open manholes and submerged obstacles, and to unplug electrical appliances during storms to prevent damage from power surges.

NDMA has coordinated with relevant departments to enhance preparedness for the expected adverse weather conditions, aiming to minimize disruption and ensure public safety.
