No Favouritism in Provision of Natural Gas

Islamabad: In recent media reports, an impression is being created that government is favouring the fertilizer sector by providing natural gas after curtailment from power sector. Mr. Mohammad Ejaz Chaudhry, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources has clarified that government is under no pressure to favour fertilizer sector. He said that supply of natural gas is being continued to avoid shortage of fertilizer in the market at this crucial time when farmers are in dire need.

Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources also said that Ministry of Water and Power is managing the power crisis and supply of additional gas to power sector at present is not needed. Issues with KESC regarding supply of gas were resolved amicably by the Federal Minister Petroleum and Natural Resources recently.

Mr. Ejaz Chaudhry also clarified that the gas supply to CNG stations at Islamabad region was resumed after the orders of the Islamabad High Court. As a result gas pressure fluctuated but necessary directions were given to SNGPL to manage the low gas pressure. He appealed to the general public to adopt conservative approach regarding consumption of natural gas.
