Karachi, The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully executed production optimization initiatives, yielding a significant production enhancement at the Siab-1 well located in the Baratai Block, nestled within the scenic Kohat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
Operating under a joint venture with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Oil and Gas Company Limited (KPOGCL), OGDCL, the leading player in the sector, holds a commanding 97.5% stake in the Siab-1 well, with KPOGCL retaining a 2.5% share.
Since its inaugural production on January 13, 2022, the Siab-1 well has consistently exhibited impressive flow rates, registering 125 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate and 6.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas. These noteworthy figures were achieved at a well head flowing pressure (WHFP) of 1700 PSI, attributed to the Lockhart formation. This productive well operates within the framework of the OGDCL Dhok Hussain Field.
Capitalizing on a meticulously planned and executed production enhancement strategy involving a rigless intervention within the Lockhart formation, OGDCL has accomplished a substantial surge in hydrocarbon production. This strategic move has led to an additional output of 265 BPD of oil and an impressive 14.3 MMSCFD of gas. The well now maintains a WHFP of 4300 PSI. The augmented gas production is seamlessly integrated into the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) network, fostering wider accessibility and utility.
The remarkable results of this endeavor have begun to manifest as the enhanced production from the Siab-1 well was formally initiated on August 28, 2023. The cumulative hydrocarbon production from the well now stands at an impressive 20.5 MMSCFD of gas and 390 BPD of oil.
This success serves as a testament to OGDCL’s unwavering commitment to harnessing technological advancements and strategic acumen in optimizing hydrocarbon production. The Siab-1 well’s remarkable performance not only bolsters the company’s position as a key player in the energy sector but also augments the overall hydrocarbon output of the nation, contributing to energy security and economic growth.
The collaborative efforts of OGDCL and KPOGCL have yielded tangible results, reaffirming the potential of Pakistan’s domestic energy resources and the shared commitment of these entities to drive progress and development in the region.
