Jammu: Major opposition parties, including the Congress, have staged protests in Jammu, demanding the reinstatement of statehood and criticizing the central government’s decision to celebrate the revocation of Article 370 on its fifth anniversary.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the protests were led by Congress IIOJK chief Vikar Rasool Wani and Congress Working President Raman Bhalla, who, along with other leaders and supporters, vocally demanded the immediate restoration of statehood with protections for local land, jobs, and natural resources.
Haji Ali Muhammad Saghar, the General Secretary of the National Conference, expressed discontent with the Modi government’s decisions made on August 5, 2019, claiming they have not fulfilled their promised objectives. Prominent opposition figures such as Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti also participated in the protests, denouncing the abrogation of Article 370 as a detrimental mark on Indian democracy.
