New Delhi: At least 59,000 WhatsApp accounts associated with digital fraud have been blocked in India.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) informed the Lok Sabha, the lower house of Parliament, in a written response that these accounts, along with 17,00 Skype IDs, were used for fraudulent activities. Reports from Indian media further indicated that by November 15, the government had blocked more than 600,000 SIM cards and 100,000 IMEI numbers.
The Ministry also noted that the Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System, introduced in 2021, plays a crucial role in identifying financial fraud and thwarting fraudulent activities.
