Hindu Extremists Demand Archaeological Survey of Jamia Masjid Delhi

New Delhi: Hindu extremists have intensified their demands for archaeological surveys of significant religious sites, now targeting the historic Jamia Masjid in the Indian capital.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Vishnu Gupta, president of the Hindutva group Hindu Sena, has formally requested the Director General of the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a survey of the Jamia Masjid located in Old Delhi. The mosque, which ranks among the largest in India, was constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan between 1650 and 1656.

The letter from the Hindu Sena president alleges that the mosque was built using materials from hundreds of demolished temples in Jodhpur and Udaipur. This claim echoes a similar recent assertion concerning the Mughal-era Jamia Masjid in the Sambhal region of Uttar Pradesh, which sparked protests that resulted in the deaths of six Muslims after police opened fire.

The demand for a survey of Jamia Masjid Delhi follows a pattern of increased scrutiny and controversy surrounding religious sites linked to India’s Mughal past.
