Pak envoy to emirates lauds efforts made by Pakistan Business Council for enhancing trade and economic ties between Pakistan and UAE

Abu Dhabi, August 16, 2012 (PPI-OT): “Pakistan has the competitive advantage on a host of fronts that needs to be translated into business opportunities considering that we are the gateway to regional markets with many commodities to offer.” These remarks came from Pakistan’s envoy to UAE Jamil Ahmed Khan while addressing the newly elected office bearers of Pakistan Business Council (PBC), who hosted iftar-dinner in the honor of the ambassador.

He also felicitated the members of Pakistani community on the occasion of Independence Day. “Pakistan is a thriving country of 180 Million with vibrant political culture and democratic institutions. It is natural and evolutionary process to experience political disputes and rivalries and every developed country represented on the globe has gone through this process.” He added it would be wrong to consider political and democratic activism as unrest.

“The 1.2 million Pakistanis living in the UAE keep themselves abreast of political developments in Pakistan and are proud of the strong institutions based on the principles of separations of power, and functioning democracy in the country,” the ambassador said.

The envoy, who also is the chairman of the Council, added that enhancing the trade and economic opportunities, promotion of UAE investment in Pakistan and seeking employment opportunities for Pakistani skilled and semi-skilled workers in the UAE remained key areas for development. He said the bilateral trade between the two countries is increasing with passage of each year and trade volume between the two countries was around USD 8 billion during 2011-12.

Ambassador Khan noted that remittances sent by Pakistani expatriates are the second largest source of Pakistan foreign exchange reserves and the country will stay focused on exporting skilled and semi skilled workforce to the UAE. “Our work force not only increases the foreign exchange remittances but also helps cementing the strong bilateral relations that so happily exist between the two brotherly countries”, he added.

He lauded the efforts made by Pakistan Business Council for bringing enthusiasm and leadership to the various initiatives meant for enhancing trade and economic ties between Pakistan and the UAE and urged the management committee to work even harder to achieve that objective.
