Pakistan advances towards accession of Hong Kong convention for ship recycling

The process of accession of the Hong Kong Convention is in final stage for the revival of the shipbreaking industry in the country.

Highlighting the challenges faced by Industry related to the environmental sustainability and worker safety, he termed Pakistan’s accession to Hong Kong Convention as a crucial step to secure the future of industry.

The meeting was told a broad consensus has been reached among all stakeholders in support of the accession with widespread acknowledgment of the benefits for ship recycling industry.

The government is actively engaging all stakeholders to address their concerns and ensure a unified commitment to this critical initiative.

The meeting concluded with a consensus that Pakistan’s move towards formal accession solidifies its position as a responsible global player in ship recycling, emphasizing safety, sustainability, and transparency.
