Baku: Pakistan and Azerbaijan have expressed a strong desire to further deepen cooperation across the entire spectrum of bilateral relations. This development came during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in Baku, which was followed by delegation-level talks between the two countries.
According to Radio Pakistan, both sides agreed on enhancing bilateral trade and investment, with a focus on exploring joint investment projects in areas such as energy, infrastructure, and connectivity. The leaders reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the two nations and expressed satisfaction with their joint efforts to strengthen ties.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed deep appreciation for President Aliyev’s announcement of a $2 billion investment in Pakistan during Aliyev’s July 2024 visit. They discussed potential projects ready for investment, with President Aliyev expressing his willingness to visit Pakistan in April to formalize these agreements.
Additionally, Prime Minister Sharif lauded Azerbaijan’s stance on the Jammu and Kashmir issue, appreciating their support for the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people as outlined in relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The Prime Minister also reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for Azerbaijan on the Karabakh issue, noting satisfaction with the liberation of Karabakh under President Aliyev’s leadership. He emphasized that Karabakh has always been the rightful territory of Azerbaijan, as endorsed by several UNSC resolutions and international law.
