Beijing: On the eve of the International Transport Conference, a significant bilateral meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and his counterpart, the Chinese Transport Minister Mr. Li Xiapeng, resulted in a consensus to undertake four major infrastructure projects in Pakistan. These developments aim to enhance connectivity and economic integration between the two nations.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting, which lasted for an hour in Beijing, concluded with agreements on advancing the ML-1, M-6, and M-9 projects, alongside initiating the second phase of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and the construction of new infrastructure including the Kaghan Naran, Jhal Khand, and Babusar Top Tunnel up to the Karakoram Highway. The discussions underscored the strategic importance of these projects, which are poised to close the existing gaps in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) network, linking major cities and improving the transport facilities across key routes.

The meeting also covered discussions on Public-Private Partnerships and other financial modalities, indicating a collaborative approach to project funding and execution. Minister Abdul Aleem Khan expressed gratitude towards the Chinese government for its ongoing support and highlighted the potential benefits of the International Transport Conference in fostering further development for Pakistan.

Chinese Transport Minister Mr. Li Xiapeng reassured his full cooperation for the future, emphasizing the mutual benefits of the joint ventures. The presence of Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, Mr. Khalil Hashmi, and senior officials from both countries at the meeting further signified the high level of diplomatic and administrative commitment towards these projects.
