Pakistan and Sri Lanka to Strengthen Ties with Increased Exchanges

Dubai: Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to enhance their bilateral relations by increasing high-level exchanges and exploring new avenues for cooperation. This decision was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit in Dubai. It marked the first in-person interaction between the two leaders.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting emphasized the historical connections between the two countries and a shared commitment to build on the existing goodwill. The discussions covered key aspects of bilateral relations, particularly in trade, defense and security, education, religious tourism, and sports.

The Sri Lankan President expressed appreciation for the cordial and longstanding relations between the two nations. He also shared his fond memories of the 1996 cricket world cup final held in Lahore, highlighting the strong cultural ties that bind the two countries.
