Pakistan and Syria Commit to Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation

Islamabad: Pakistan and Syria have agreed to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across areas of mutual interest. The understanding to this effect was reached during wide-ranging delegation-level talks between the two countries, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, in Islamabad today. The two sides reaffirmed the longstanding brotherly ties between the two countries.

According to Radio Pakistan, the discussions included exchanging views on regional and international developments, such as the situations in Palestine, the Golan Heights, Afghanistan, South Asia, and the broader Middle East. Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of these principles in their bilateral relations.

The Syrian Foreign Minister welcomed the signing of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and praised Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability. He specifically noted Pakistan’s efforts toward de-escalation in the US-Iran context, underscoring the importance of these efforts for regional harmony.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued engagement and cooperation for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond. The talks highlighted the mutual desire to work closely on shared challenges and opportunities, aiming to foster a stronger partnership in the future.
