Pakistan and Turkiye Aim for $5 Billion Trade Milestone

Islamabad: Pakistan and Turkiye have committed to intensifying efforts to achieve a trade volume of five billion dollars, following discussions between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during a high-level strategic cooperation meeting in Islamabad.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, both nations are considering expanding their current goods trade agreement as a first step toward reaching this ambitious target. Turkish President Erdogan emphasized the importance of encouraging Turkish investors to participate in flagship projects in Pakistan.

President Erdogan highlighted the significant growth in military dialogue and defense industry cooperation, which has bolstered trade and investment relations between the two countries. He noted that both sides are determined to advance projects in areas such as procurement, sales, and joint manufacturing, with 24 agreements signed during the meeting aimed at benefiting both nations and the region.

Erdogan appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in combating terrorism and assured Turkiye’s unwavering support in this fight. He also reiterated Turkiye’s solidarity with Kashmir and its commitment to resolving the Kashmir dispute through dialogue based on UN resolutions.

Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for Turkiye’s consistent stance on Kashmir and affirmed Pakistan’s support for Northern Cyprus. He praised Turkiye’s assistance during natural disasters in Pakistan, noting the enduring partnership between the two countries. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral relations and expressed confidence in translating signed agreements and MOUs into tangible actions.

The discussions covered various topics, including trade, investment, and strategic cooperation, with a focus on materializing agreements through joint efforts. The Prime Minister hosted a luncheon in honor of the Turkish President and his delegation, further solidifying the commitment to deepening ties.
