Pakistan Calls for Global Attention to TTP and Daesh Threats

United Nations: Pakistan has called on the international community to acknowledge and address the increasing terrorist threats posed by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Majeed Brigade, and Daesh. The appeal was made during a United Nations Security Council briefing on “Threats to International Peace and Security Caused by Terrorist Acts.”

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, emphasized that the threat extends beyond Afghanistan and Pakistan to the wider region and even globally. He stressed that Pakistan rejects any claims of ISIL-K/Daesh recruitment occurring within its borders.

Akram highlighted the presence of over two dozen terrorist organizations operating in Afghanistan, describing it as the “main hub for ISIL-K’s recruitment and facilitation,” a point supported by a recent United Nations Monitoring Team report. He urged those responsible for the current situation to consider these assessments seriously.

He further insisted that the activities of these terrorist groups and their affiliates, well-documented in reports by the Secretary-General and the Monitoring Team, require immediate attention. Akram stated that Pakistan continues to face threats from groups like TTP, Daesh, and the Majeed Brigade, which have safe havens across its borders, despite successfully dismantling Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups domestically.

In his address, Akram conveyed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, underscoring the country’s role in global counter-terrorism efforts. He noted that Pakistan has been a significant target of terrorist activities, suffering the loss of 80,000 lives and severe economic damage.
