Pakistan Commences Work on Largest Nuclear Power Project with $3 Billion Chinese Investment

Islamabad: Pakistan has initiated work on its largest nuclear power project, following a significant investment of $3 billion from China, signaling international confidence in the country’s economic policies. This development was announced by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, highlighting the strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Iqbal addressed concerns from Leader of the Opposition Syed Shibli Faraz, emphasizing that this project showcases the global community’s trust in the government’s financial strategies. The announcement comes amidst discussions on various national issues within the government.

In a critique of the previous administration, Iqbal accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government of economic mismanagement, specifically mentioning the concealment of 64 billion rupees linked to the Al-Qadir Trust matter. He asserted that this amount was transferred to private accounts rather than the national treasury, promising accountability for what he described as corruption.

Further addressing past government missteps, the Planning Minister blamed the PTI leadership for debilitating the aviation sector, resulting in substantial financial losses for the national carrier, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The grounding of PIA flights to Europe, he claimed, was a consequence of disparaging remarks made against Pakistani pilots.

In legislative developments, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar presented the Special Technology Zones Authority (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was subsequently referred to a standing committee for further consideration.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, responding to a parliamentary query, reassured efforts to reinstate PIA flights to the United Kingdom, revealing that 22 aircraft are currently operational. He also announced plans to resume the privatization process of the airline.

The parliamentary session concluded with an announcement that the House will reconvene the following morning.
