Pakistan holds successful nuclear security training conference – 29 countries attend first ever workshop outside International Atomic Energy Agency headquarters

Islamabad, March 21, 2016 (PPI-OT): The annual Meeting of the International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres (NSSC) was held from 14 -18 March in Islamabad in collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The Meeting was held for the first time outside IAEA Headquarters.

NSSC regularly contributes to global efforts for enhancing nuclear security capacity building through an effective and collaborative mechanism.

Fifty six officials representing 29 countries i.e. Afghanistan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, China, Djibouti, Ecuador, Ghana, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Korea, Lebanon, Lithuania, Morocco, Myanmar, Romania, Russia, Senegal, South Africa, Sudan, Thailand, Indonesia, UK, Ukraine, USA and Vietnam attended the meeting. Officials of the World Institute of Nuclear Security and IAEA also participated in the event.

Pakistan, being a responsible nuclear state, has evolved effective nuclear security architecture over the years and has developed substantial capacity for nuclear security training.

Pakistan’s Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Security is a state of the art institution, which imparts training in various nuclear security related disciplines to national and international participants in collaboration with National Institute of Safety and Security (NISAS) and Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS) through a highly qualified faculty. Participants of the meeting visited these institutes and were appreciative of Pakistan’s high training standards and best practices in the nuclear security domain. During the meeting, the participants actively shared their experience, knowledge and practices in the field of nuclear security for mutual benefit. The meeting concluded on a successful note.
