Pakistan Prepares for UN Human Rights Review Under Senator Tarar’s Leadership

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, recently led a significant review meeting focused on Pakistan’s Second Periodic Report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR). The assembly of federal and provincial government representatives was aimed at assessing the nation’s progress in human rights and preparing for the upcoming UN Human Rights Committee review scheduled for October 2024.

According to Ministry of Human Rights, the meeting emphasized the importance of strengthening human rights legislation, addressing challenges in the implementation of the ICCPR, and fostering enhanced cooperation between federal and provincial entities. The collaborative effort is part of a broader strategy to ensure Pakistan’s compliance with international human rights standards as the country heads into the critical review.
