Pakistan Reaffirms Commitment to Multilateralism, Calls for End to U.S. Embargo on Cuba

New York: Pakistan has reiterated its strong support for multilateralism and adherence to the principles of sovereign equality, non-interference, and non-intervention as outlined in the United Nations Charter. This stance was emphasized by Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, during a debate at the UN General Assembly.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ambassador Jadoon spoke during the General Assembly debate titled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.” He underscored the Cuban people’s right to essential resources, especially food and medicine, and asserted that lifting the embargo would enhance the quality of life for Cubans and aid in their progress toward sustainable development.

Ambassador Jadoon expressed concern about the adverse effects of the embargo on Cuba, stressing that Pakistan views unilateral economic measures as counterproductive and inconsistent with the goals of the UN Charter and international law. Pakistan, he stated, maintains that such measures hinder global efforts to promote peace, security, and economic development.
