New york: At the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan has reaffirmed full support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous state of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders with Al-Quds Al Sharif as its capital.
According to Radio Pakistan, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, addressed the Emergency Meeting on the Middle East, emphasizing that the Security Council must be prepared to impose consequences on Israel if it defies the Council’s demands and the will of the international community.
Asim Iftikhar asserted that the Security Council must move beyond mere statements. He stressed the need for the Council to act decisively to end aggression, restore justice, and ensure accountability.
The envoy highlighted that any attempt to sever Gaza from the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory constitutes a direct attack on the core of the Two-State vision. He affirmed that Gaza is and will remain an inseparable part of the State of Palestine.
Additionally, Asim Iftikhar stated that decisions regarding governance and future direction are for the Palestinians and Palestinians alone to determine. He conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s stance that the root cause of the ongoing tragedy is Israel’s prolonged, illegal occupation of Palestinian territory, and as long as this occupation persists, peace will remain elusive.
