Pakistan Stock Exchange Records a Positive Uptick in Key Indices

Karachi, The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reported notable gains in several major indices on May 17, 2024, according to the latest market data. The KSE-100 Index, a benchmark for market performance, saw an increase of 411.65 points, closing at 75,342.35, which is a 0.55% rise from the previous session. This improvement reflects a broader positive trend observed across various sectors listed on the main board.

The PSX, which hosts 523 listed companies with a combined paid-up capital of 1,675,712 million, boasted a market capitalisation of over 10 trillion. Trading activity was robust with a total traded volume of 496,699,517 shares, and the traded value stood at 17,631,755,882 for the day. According to information available from the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the market dynamics showed more advancers at 212 compared to 153 decliners, with 21 stocks remaining unchanged.

In the sector indices, the KSE-30 Index also posted gains, adding 68.60 points to close at 24,214.29, marking a growth of 0.28%. Meanwhile, the KMI-30 Index, which tracks the performance of companies with substantial market capitalisation, improved by 577.66 points to finish at 124,073.60, a 0.47% increase.

Conversely, the BKTi Index, which measures biotechnology and pharmaceutical sector performance, fell slightly by 28.31 points, ending the day at 18,555.77, down by 0.15%. The other indices such as the PSX-KMI-All-Shares and the NITPGI also reported positive movements, further signaling investor confidence in the broader market.

In terms of debt securities, the main board listed 13 publicly issued debt securities with a total issue size of 60 billion, while 22 privately placed debt securities totaled an issue size of approximately 502.59 billion. The market also includes nine listed Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and various other investment instruments.

As the trading session closed, the PSX continues to reflect a diverse and dynamic environment for investors, underscored by significant traded volumes and overall positive index performances.
