Pakistan Supports Humanitarian Efforts in Afghanistan: FO

Islamabad: Pakistan has been and will continue to support all efforts aimed at addressing the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan as well as for lasting peace and stability in the country.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Foreign Office Spokesperson has expressed gratitude to the Secretary General of the Norwegian Refugee Council, Jan Egeland, for highlighting the humanitarian challenges faced by Afghanistan. The spokesperson emphasized that the global community should have maintained support for the Afghan people after the war and fostered socioeconomic conditions conducive to their prosperity.

The statement highlighted that for the past forty years, Pakistan has hosted over four million Afghan refugees. It was clarified that those who have been repatriated were residing in Pakistan without proper documentation or proof of residence.

Furthermore, the spokesperson pointed out that the process for resettling thousands of Afghan nationals in western countries has been moving slowly. The statement also noted that UN humanitarian aid to Afghanistan is significantly underfunded, with only 37.5 percent of the required funds secured last year.
