Pakistan to Host National Workshop on Wheat Sector Deregulation

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Food Security and Research is set to host a National Workshop on Deregulating the Wheat Sector, aiming to develop a strategy for a deregulated wheat market while maintaining strategic reserves and ensuring food security. The event, scheduled for January 24, 2025, at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, is part of the government’s structural reform efforts under the IMF program.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the workshop will be led by Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, with guidance from the Federal Secretary. It will gather representatives from all four provinces, including provincial food secretaries and experts, to discuss strategies for managing wheat reserves and ensuring food security.

Minister Hussain highlighted the government’s dedication to food security and agricultural reform. “This workshop reflects our commitment to ensuring food security while reforming the agricultural sector to meet modern demands,” he stated.

The Federal Secretary echoed these sentiments, emphasizing collaboration with provinces and regions to achieve a balanced wheat market. “This workshop will serve as a critical platform for discussing innovative ideas and strategies,” he added.

To facilitate participation, the Ministry has arranged for accommodation and travel expenses for attendees from outside the city. The workshop is a step towards fostering collaboration between federal and provincial entities to create a transparent and efficient wheat market.

The Ministry of National Food Security and Research remains committed to sustainable agricultural reforms and is looking forward to active participation from stakeholders to achieve shared food security goals.
