Pakistan’s Longstanding Commitment to UN Peacekeeping Highlighted as Exemplary

Islamabad: Pakistan has maintained a distinguished role in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions since its initial involvement in 1960, continuing to demonstrate a strong commitment to international peace and security. As a member of the United Nations since shortly after its independence, Pakistan has actively participated in peacekeeping efforts across numerous countries, contributing significantly in terms of personnel and facing substantial challenges.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Pakistan’s armed forces have been recognized globally for their dedicated service in UN missions, with currently about three thousand peacekeepers deployed in hotspots including the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Central African Republic, Cyprus, Western Sahara, and Somalia. The report also notes the sacrifices made by Pakistani peacekeepers, including 171 fatalities, which underscores the nation’s commitment to global peace efforts.

The recognition extends to Pakistan’s emphasis on gender representation in peace operations, positioning itself as a leader in integrating women into peacebuilding roles. Despite the difficulties encountered in these missions, Pakistani soldiers and officers remain resolute under the UN Charter and Security Council mandates, continuing to uphold their legacy of service in the quest for global peace.
