Pakistan’s Ministries Join Tree Plantation Initiative to Combat Climate Change

Islamabad: In a concerted effort to address environmental sustainability, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination launched a tree plantation event under the “Upscaling of Green Pakistan Programme (UGPP).” The ceremony, held at the ministry’s premises, was attended by key governmental figures including Federal Minister for Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal.

According to Press Information Department, the initiative seeks to significantly increase forest cover across the nation, with other ministries also encouraged to participate by organizing similar tree-planting ceremonies. During the event, Minister Ahsan Iqbal planted trees alongside Secretary Planning, Awais Manzur Sumra, and additional ministry staff, marking a symbolic commitment to combating climate change.

Highlighting the importance of the initiative, Minister Iqbal linked the act of tree planting to both ecological benefits and cultural teachings, noting its endorsement in religious contexts. The UGPP is designed not only to enhance the environmental landscape but also to position Pakistan as a leader among nations actively pursuing sustainability and environmental consciousness.
