Karachi: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah emphasized the significance of Pakistan’s textile and leather industries in driving exports, employment, and economic development, during the opening ceremony of the 5th International Textile and Leather Exhibition (TEXPO 2024) at the Expo Centre.
According to Chief Minister Sindh, textile exports for 2023-2024 reached $16.6 billion, while the leather industry contributed $805 million in foreign exchange. Organized by the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan with support from the Ministry of Commerce, the exhibition welcomed 500 international delegates from 60 countries, reflecting growing global interest in Pakistan’s textile and leather sectors.
The Chief Minister highlighted the participation of delegations from non-traditional markets such as Brazil, Argentina, and Finland, as well as global brands like Ikea and HandM. He also stressed the importance of sustainability in production practices, noting the inclusion of seminars on sustainability and a fashion show featuring eco-friendly designs by local artisans.
The exhibition, running under the theme “Leading towards Sustainability,” aims to showcase Pakistan’s rich textile heritage while promoting investment and trade opportunities for more than 200 Pakistani companies.
