PDP and NC Leaders Urge Lifting Ban on Jamaat-e-Islami in Kashmir

Srinagar: Leaders from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the National Conference (NC) have called for the revocation of the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the group’s contributions to education and social welfare.

According to Kashmir Media Service, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti questioned the fairness of the ban, comparing Jamaat-e-Islami’s community efforts favorably against other organizations that she claimed spread divisiveness yet remain unprohibited. Mufti underscored the importance of addressing the broader Kashmir dispute and criticized the central government’s revocation of Article 370, which she believes has exacerbated regional tensions.

In addition, Mufti highlighted the electoral support in north Kashmir for Sheikh Abdul Rashid, interpreting it as a vote for self-determination. She also accused the BJP of damaging relations between Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of India by abolishing Article 370.

Echoing these sentiments, NC leader Omar Abdullah also supported lifting the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami, aligning with the call for reconsideration of policies affecting the region’s autonomy and its people’s welfare.
