PDP Leader Waheed Parra Voices Discontent in Kashmir, Calls Elections a Referendum

Srinagar, Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, a leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the party’s candidate for the Srinagar constituency in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, has publicly stated that the people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir are not content with the administration from Delhi, suggesting that the upcoming elections should be seen as a referendum on this issue.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a public meeting, Waheed Parra expressed his views about the political climate in Kashmir, particularly in Srinagar. He emphasized that the silence of the local population should not be mistaken for satisfaction. “People are silent, but they are not happy,” he asserted, adding that there is a palpable sense of fear and uncertainty about the future among the youth.

Parra pointed out that the residents feel their resources and identity are at risk and stressed the importance of seeking assurances from the highest legislative body in the country, the Parliament. He also highlighted the broader issues affecting the region, beyond the significant changes imposed on August 5, 2019, mentioning the ongoing conflict, the loss of lives, and the detention of many individuals.
