Plastics/packaging industry in Pakistan is growing with annual rate of 15 percent

Karachi, August 18, 2016 (PPI-OT): Adviser to Chief Minister Punjab, Mr. Sameeullah along with vice chairman Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Nasir Saeed have jointly inaugurated the 14th International plastic and packaging Industry exhibition, Plasti and Pack and 13th edition of International exhibition for food and beverage technologies, Iftech food + Bev tec, inaugurated at expo centre on Thursday.

The annual international exhibition has become the hallmark of introducing the most innovative and latest technologies. The show offers latest in plastics, printing, packaging material and machinery for all manufacturing and processing industries along with food ingredients and chemical products.

The biggest participation is from China and Iran. The exhibition is well attended by 400 companies from 30 countries including Australia, Germany, China, Belgium, Austria, Italy, India, Iran, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Switzerland, Turkey, U.A.E, United Kingdom, USA and Vietnam, offering latest trends and technologies for the related industries.

A unique feature of the food exhibition is the participation of college of tourism and hotel management, (COTHM), in collaboration with Chefs association of Pakistan, which has organized a, “Skill Showcasing Activity”, by professional chefs and COTHM students during the Three days of the Exhibition.

“Plastics/packaging industry in Pakistan is growing with an annual rate of 15 %. Its GDP share is 1.69 % and contribution to national output is PKR7.5 billion”, stated, managing director, Pegasus consultancy, Mr. Aamer Khanzada, organizer of the show.

The estimated investment in plastics sector is around $ 260 billion out of which 49 % is foreign direct investment, the industry overall imported machinery worth $ 545 Million in the year 2015,” he added.
Khanzada mentioned that,” Food, beverage and processed food industry is the 2nd largest in Pakistan after textile. Pakistan’s agro food products contribute 21% to the country’s GDP and it is the main source of livelihood for 45 % of the country’s population. “Our food processing market is one of the most important ones in South East Asia. The trade volume of processed food is near about $ 1.4 billion annually”. Mr. Khanzada, further remarked. The local and foreign visitors participated with latest technology, showcasing the latest product range from plastics processing, printing and packaging, including injection molding, blow molding, flexible packaging, extrusion machinery, Gravure/Flexographic/Offset Machines.

Along with these, food and beverage processing lines, bakery confectionery equipment, milk and value added product processing, meat processing, material handling equipment, inspection and detection instruments and slaughterhouse equipment were also on display list of IFTECH 2015. Beside all these technologies demonstration, many food producers from Iran and Pakistan are also being showcased at the exhibition. A high profile two days conference and seminar on second and third day of the exhibition is been planned: The theme of the 1st edition of Meat and Poultry Conference is,” Halal export markets and role of processing packaging technologies”, which will be held on second day, simultaneously on third day there will be an annual packaging forum by the theme, ” PET packaging – The future outlook”.

Prominent speakers from Germany, Hong Kong, Pakistan and Middle East will be presenting their papers at the conference. Plasti Pack and Iftech-2016, is fully supported by government bodies and trade associations like : Ministry of food, agriculture and livestock (MINFAL), Board of investment (BOI), Engineering development board (EDB), Pakistan council of scientific and industrial research (PCSIR), Pakistan Agriculture research council (PARC), Pakistan fruit and vegetable exporters association (PFVA), National institute of food scientist and technology (NIFSAT), Islamic food and nutrition council of America (IFANCA), Pakistan dairy association (PDA), Pakistan poultry Association (PAA), Flexible packaging association of converters of Pakistan (Flexpack)
