Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that a comprehensive strategy should be framed in coordination with the provinces for sustainable agricultural reforms. Chairing a meeting regarding reforms in the agriculture sector in Islamabad, he emphasized that the export of agricultural produce should be increased by utilizing agricultural zoning and a value chain strategy.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister stated that the implementation of agricultural reforms will begin with providing farmers access to easy loans. A Public-Private Partnership model will be adopted for agricultural financing. He also highlighted the need for immediate reforms in Zarai Taraqiati Bank to ensure transparent and easy loan disbursement to farmers.
The Prime Minister mentioned that agricultural projects will be prioritized in the next Public Sector Development Programme. Development initiatives will focus on mechanization, digitization, easy access to credit for farmers, and the establishment of a business-friendly environment. He noted that sustainable reforms in the agricultural sector will further boost the national economy.
Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif stressed that special attention will be given to reforms in the livestock sector in addition to crop production. Reforms in the agricultural sector are expected to result in significant increases in production and reductions in production costs.
The Prime Minister urged that new proposals should be introduced for short and long-term strategies to increase storage capacity for agricultural commodities. He pointed out that the agriculture sector can only progress in line with modern demands if experts cooperate in determining the direction of agricultural policies.
Additionally, the Prime Minister stated that agricultural technology should be introduced considering the needs of small landowners. He emphasized that the integrated use of digital platforms should be ensured to keep farmers informed about new agricultural knowledge.
