Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has launched a special relief scheme to mitigate the impact of rising petroleum prices on the public amid the recent tensions in the Middle East and the resultant increase in global oil prices.
According to Radio Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif announced that the scheme will provide a relief of one hundred rupees per litre on petrol for users of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws, and vehicles up to 800cc. The relief is aimed at easing the financial burden on those most affected by the surge in oil prices.
He further explained that motorcycle, rickshaw, and Qingqi users, as well as other two and three-wheeler users, will be eligible for a relief of one hundred rupees per litre on up to twenty litres of petrol per month. Similarly, owners of small cars up to 800cc will benefit from the same relief on up to thirty litres of petrol per month.
The Prime Minister stated that the scheme will initially be implemented in the Islamabad Capital Territory on the night between Monday and Tuesday. It will then be extended to the rest of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
Registration for the special relief scheme commenced today, with the registration procedure to be communicated to the public through an awareness campaign. Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the government’s awareness of the public’s difficulties due to the increase in oil prices and reassured that the government would not leave the people alone in this challenging time.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the provinces for their cooperation in providing information regarding motorcycles, rickshaws, and small vehicles for registration under the scheme.
