Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has directed for administrative and institutional measures to stop tax evasion. He was chairing a meeting in Islamabad to review the reforms in the taxation system.
According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister instructed the officials concerned to eliminate the shortcomings in tax collection in tobacco, tiles, and other major sectors in a phased manner. He emphasized accelerating the implementation of tax reforms to put the country on the path of economic stability and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Prime Minister noted that the latest economic indicators show a positive trajectory and that the confidence of the business community is a testament to the effectiveness of the government’s efforts. During the meeting, it was highlighted that tariff reforms implemented this year had no negative impact on revenue collection. Instead, there has been a 25 percent increase in the collection of duties and taxes at the import level.
The meeting also discussed that ongoing economic reforms aim to boost manufacturing and exports to create a more conducive investment environment in the country, and these reforms have remained effective with positive results.
