PM, Russian President Discuss Kashmir, Palestine Issues

Beijing: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed Pakistan’s eagerness to enhance bilateral relations with Russia in sectors such as trade connectivity, energy, agriculture, investment, defense, artificial intelligence, education, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. He articulated these thoughts during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance Pakistan places on its relations with Russia, highlighting the shared perspectives of both nations on various global platforms. He underscored the necessity for regular engagement through established institutional mechanisms and proposed tangible initiatives like the Pakistan Steel Mill Karachi project and investment in connectivity projects as enduring symbols of Pakistan-Russia friendship.

President Vladimir Putin concurred with Prime Minister Sharif’s assessment of the bilateral relations and noted the positive trajectory of ties between the two countries. He highlighted the significance of collaboration within organizations like the SCO, which can play a key role in regional and global security and stability. Putin reiterated Russia’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan across multiple domains.

Reflecting on their previous meeting in Astana last year, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the expanded cooperation and increased momentum over the past year. They acknowledged that the relationship is currently characterized by mutual trust, respect, and warmth.

The leaders also engaged in discussions regarding the situations in South Asia, Afghanistan, the Middle East, and the Ukraine conflict. They exchanged views on ongoing cooperation at multilateral forums and addressed long-standing global issues such as Palestine and Kashmir. President Putin extended a cordial invitation to Prime Minister Sharif for an official visit to Russia.
