PM Shehbaz hails Nawab of Junagadh for raising strong voice against India’s illegal occupation of state

Islamabad, July 21, 2023 (PPI-OT): Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the death of Nawab of Junagadh, Muhammad Jahangir Khanji. The Prime Minister said that the Nawab of Junagadh always raised a strong voice against India’s illegal occupation of the State of Junagadh. He prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and for the grant of patience to his bereaved family.

Nawab Muhammad Jahangir Khanji was admitted to a private hospital after being diagnosed with cancer where he breathed his last, yesterday. The Nawab dedicated his entire life to the independence of the Junagadh state from India. He continued his struggle to achieve this goal till his last breath.

It is worth mentioning here that Junagarh was a princely state and at the time of partition in 1947 over 550 states were given the choice to join either Pakistan or India. The then Nawab of Junagarh had decided to join Pakistan. Nawab Mahabat Khan, the then governor of Junagarh and grandfather of Nawab Muhammad Jahangir Khanji, had signed an agreement of accession to Pakistan on 15 September in 1947. However, India invaded the Muslim-ruled State and forcibly occupied it on November 09, 1947 in sheer violation of the Partition Plan.
